For Tarragona, the organisation of the Mediterranean Games will bring about a real boost for the creation and renovation of its sports facilities. A noticeable improvement, suited to the needs of the city and of the Games, from which its inhabitants will benefit before, during and especially after the great sports event of 2017. Such a transformation will provide a valuable legacy for sport in Tarragona and for the sportsmen and sportswomen of the future, who will have more means available to them to get to the top.

Generally speaking, the following are the sports facilities included in the initial proposal of Tarragona's candidature.

The New Stadium for Club Gimnàstic. This is the largest scale planned facility. Not only will it be the main venue for the football competition, but it will also be the stage for the Games' opening and closing ceremonies.

The Athletics Stadium. Newly built. This is an open air facility with a running track, a natural grass field area and annexed warm-up area. Once the Games have been held, its seating capacity could be reduced to better suit the needs of the city.

The New Sports Complex. This is another of the jewels of the project for the city. This covered pavilion, with parquet flooring, warm-up room and a series of areas that can be adapted to host different competitions, is devised to hold the basketball competition during the Games.

The Aquatics Centre. Conceived to host the swimming and water polo events. In its proposal, Tarragona 2017 devised that this facility should be one of the emblems of the Games and one of the greatest legacies that the event will leave to the city.

The Mediterranean Village. This will house all of the athletes in the one area, to facilitate convivence and the atmosphere of competition. The great majority of sports events will be held within a radius of just a few kilometres, to guarantee the sportsmen and sportswomen's mobility and access to all venues.

Renovation. The main stages of the Games are completed by existing facilities. The proposal of Tarragona 2017 optimises the good facilities the city disposes of, enhancing them and adapting them for the occasion. Thus, places such as the Bull Ring, where the rhythmic and artistic gymnastics competitions will take place, the Serrallo Sports Pavilion, home to CBT, the local basketball team, and the Jordi Tarragó Firing Rangewill undergo noticeable transformations in order to provide the sportsmen and sportswomenwith the best stage during the Games’ 10 days.
